hedgehog yoyo
Process
Our team wanted to create a yoyo inspired by a cute animal - we settled on a hedgehog. We used solidworks to make the molds for the face, back, and base parts, and used MasterCAM for machining toolpaths. We used a CNC mill and lathe to make our aluminum molds, and used these to injection mold more than 50 functional yoyos. I worked specifically on all aspects of the face part, pictured to the right. Check out the video below to see an overview of our process!
Context
This yoyo was created for MIT’s 2.008 Design and Manufacturing class. The group was made up of 6 mechanical engineering undergraduates, who worked together to design and manufacture a run of 50 yoyos by the end of the semester.
