Process
We set out with the goal of creating a more automated and contained way of raising cockroaches, in order to potentially use cockroaches as a protein source for either humans or for reptilian pets, as they are currently used. After researching existing farming methods, talking with professors and farmers in the space, and securing funding for our project, we designed and built a working prototype over the course of the semester.
Our final design included automatic feeding and climate control, cleaning of the enclosure, waste disposal, and harvesting of the roaches themselves.
Context
This project was done in the spring of 2018 with a group of five MIT students and alums. Our alpha prototype was made with funds from MIT Sandbox and ProjX.
